Women Terrorists

Photodude asks if women could have taken the place of the 19 hijackers on 9/11. He thinks the only reason why that it couldn't be so is that women would be able to maintain the will to kill for the years necessary to plan and execute such a thing. I don't think that would be an obstacle at all. While women are less likely to engage in direct violent acts than men, that doesn't mean they aren't capable. Margaret Thatcher, Cleopatra, and Queen Elizabeth I, among others, have all had no problem issuing orders that resulted in violence. Hundreds of women have been sent to jail for assault and murder, in some cases such heinous a murder as to require the death penalty. Not only that, but also remember that women have blown themselves up in Israel with appalling regularity. So frankly, no, there is no reason why women could not be a terrorist.

Being a terrorist who is able to take, hold, an physically defend a airplane cockpit, on the other hand, is another matter entirely. While women might be capable of physical violence mentally, being capable of engaging in such violence physically is something else. Currently I go to the gym twice a day, at various times in the day, so I get to see quite a few women, many of whom are in good physical shape.(That's not what I meant!) With one or two exceptions, very few of these women have much physical strength, and the one or two exceptions are still nowhere near as strong as the average men working out at this gym, let alone those who really devote themselves to bulking up. I have seen no women benchpress more than 110 lbs total on a barbell, or more than 30 lbs on a dumbell curl. I have seen one woman legpress 280 lbs, and that is about all as far as serious weight lifting is concerned. The upshot of this is that women, even women with martial arts training, will be at a serious disadvantage in a situation involving physical combat, so I don't think women would be a good choice in a situation where the only means of attack is physical violence. Women could be useful in a situation where guns are involved, or being an islamokaze, but actual fighting? No.
