Little Techie Rant

Ok, I'm going to go on a little techie rant here. A lot of sites, mine included, have parts of their site that come from other sites on the web. The Blogs for Bush blogroll, and the Alliance blogroll both come from other sites. The Amazon ads and the google ads come from other sites as well. The problem with all these external links for you, the person browsing my site, and me, as the blogger, is that how fast the site loads is often completely out of my hands. I often notice that when I browse to my site, the loading will hand while either of the two blogrolls load, or the counters load, etc, etc. The problem is that the speed of my site is often heavily dependent on the slowest of the sites out there. Right now, I'm having a problem with the alliance blogroll. For the time being, I've had to deactivate it while I work on a workaround. What I'd like to see, instead of the current method of doing blogrolls, is that we develop a method of using shared blogrolls that loads its content when I update the blog, not when the blog is loaded. That way, if site x is slow, the only person who experiences the delay is the blogger, and not all of his readers. I'm working on something that will do that, and should have it complete by tonight or tomorrow, hopefully. And of course, I'll be using an IBM Selectric to do it(getting in my gratuitous Ra^thergate reference as well. )
